LA PERSISTENCIA DE LA IMAGEN (1997)

(The persistence of the image)

La persistencia de la imagen
"La persistencia de la imagen" (The persistence of the image) arises as the consequence of writing a collective play for El Astillero theatre called Photos. The common theme is photography. It is an investigation about the limits between the imaginary, the desire and the possession or submission of the partner.
Neither prostitution nor violence towards women are the main themes of "Juego de Dos" (game of two). It isnīt a play about social complaint, but it is about sex, desire, control-submission relation everyday established, the conflict between experimenting and just looking. It describes the difference between the imaginary and the enjoyment; the desire to posses the partnerīs image and the
dissipation of that image when sexual desire appears changing into another order directed by a body that escapes to the imaginary. In the text there are not only two characters but five: the Body, the Client, the Voice, the Scene and the Eye.


Carlos Rodriguez was awarded with José Luis de Alonso prize to the best novel scenic direction for the performance of this text in the premiere.

Summary:

She is the Body hired by a little money. He is the Client and hides something. She discovers the fear.
